THE CRAFTSMAN AWARD Sponsored by Sign Directions Magazine
Despite the advance of new technologies and computer controlled machines, real craftsmanship continues to play a vital role in the modern sign industry
This award seeks to recognise genuine craftsmanship in signmaking – but this doesn’t mean that entrants can only be those who work with gold leaf or wood or hand paint their signs.
The judges are looking for signmakers who have gone ‘the extra mile’ to create something that is unique.
Previous winners have included Roderick Flint and Michael Kaye who do indeed still work with gold leaf; but the award has also been presented to Vinyline a thoroughly modern business that re-created a work of art in vinyl for the Selfridges storefront in Manchester.
Whether you work in wood, gold leaf, neon, plastic or steel, if your end product is hand-crafted you should enter for this award.
